Your friend that "works from home." Ever wonder how much work they "really" do? Me too. They'll tell us that it's harder when you're working from home because you don't have the structure that working in a office brings with meetings, emails, and managers. They'll say you have to be super organized and a real go-getter to chase deadlines and get things done.

I always look for my BS flag to throw.

One of my good friends works from home. He lives in Maryland while his office is in California. He has a three hour head start on his day which includes: going to the gym, practicing yoga, gardening, yard work, and watching the latest hour of SportsCenter while sipping on his French Pressed coffee. Sure, there are the few times when his secretary calls him with an emergency at 10PM on the East Coast, when it's 7PM local time and he has to get out of bed or press pause on the DVR to respond to a problem - but those moments are few and far in between.

If you've thought about working from home, how tempted would you be goof off? I'm sure even the most disciplined person has a weakness. Check out "Bob's" story.  He's a computer developer who outsourced his own job to a Chinese subcontractor and was spending all his work time playing around on the internet.

I love the breakdown of his average workday…

9:00 a.m. – Arrive and surf Reddit for a couple of hours. Watch cat videos

11:30 a.m. – Take lunch

1:00 p.m. – Ebay time

2:00-ish p.m – Facebook updates, LinkedIn

4:30 p.m. – End-of-day update e-mail to management

5:00 p.m. – Go home

Fun Fact: it wasn't the screwing around that got Bob in trouble. It's when he took jobs with other firms and had THAT work outsourced too!
