Three out of the last two mornings I've been rudely woken up, but this morning was down right terrifying. First, let me say I live in a beautiful apartment complex in Saratoga. When I chose to move in alone, I made it a point to pick somewhere comfortable and safe. This past week has felt anything like.
As many of you may have heard in the news, Dodge trucks are being targeted in the area to steal gas from. Apparently these trucks have thin gas tanks, making it easy to pop a whole in and drain. My neighbor, whose truck was parked outside of my bedroom window Saturday night was a victim. The scary thing was I heard nothing- nor did my loud mouthed over protective black lab. It took the police and fire truck sirens waking me up to know something had gone array 100 feet from where I had been sleeping minutes before. Like any Public Safety Coordinator's daughter who grew up listening to a scanner I quickly threw on outerwear and made my way up to a firefighter standing at his truck to get the scoop.
As if that scenario didn't give me the heebie jeebies already, I had no idea what was to come this morning. At about 5:30am I abruptly woke up to someone walking around my building aggressively knocking on windows and doors- including the window 2 feet from my head. There aren't many things that scare me to the point of freezing up- but this did. I stayed in my bed for what felt like 10 minutes, which I'm sure was really 10 seconds in all reality stiff as a board trying to register what was going on/what to do. The sound of the plows scrapping the pavement made it sound like the world was ending outside. There was no way I was opening the door to whatever and whoever was outside. I finally braved it out of bed and peeked through the window. What I found was a nightmare- a scary unkept man dressed in camoflague staring back at me. I'm sure my eyes were the size of quarters looking back at him. He proceeded to yell threw my window at me "You waiting for a cab."
To say the least, I'm feeling a little off this morning. I hope no one else has or will ever have to experience such a rude awakening!
